Gerrard: I'm a Red until I die

STEVEN GERRARD wants to sign a deal to stay at Liverpool for the rest of his playing career — and then go on to coach the club.

Rafa Benitez has tipped Gerrard as the man who could one day succeed him as Kop boss.

And the midfielder, 28, said: “I don’t know what’s going to happen over the next 10 years but for the next five or six I hope I’m playing for Liverpool.

“I have two and a half years left on my contract and hopefully I will sign another and stay here for the rest of my career.

“We will have to wait and see about management but I certainly want to get my qualifications.

“If my working life carries on being with Liverpool then I will be very happy.”

The Kop skipper announced his intention to stay as he approaches the 10th anniversary of his debut.

England star Gerrard made his bow on November 29, 1998 against Blackburn.

And boss Benitez said: “Everyone can see how good he is and his commitment to the club.

“Maybe he will one day be the manager to replace me. He has great passion for the club, he loves the club and the city.”
